Regulation D Change to Benefit Members
Good News! During COVID, Mainstreet temporarily suspended the portion of Regulation D that limits transfers or withdrawals from savings accounts to six per month. The Federal Reserve has now adopted this as a final rule, allowing for unlimited transfers or withdrawals. Originally, the Federal Government created this portion of Regulation D to encourage long-term savings habits. This change provides more flexibility to access your savings when you really need it.

SafetyNet
SafetyNet: Romance Scams
Adults of all ages are going online in hopes of finding love and companionship.
Three in 10 U.S. adults have used a dating website or app, including 1 in 5 Americans ages 50 to 64, according to a recent Pew Research Center study. But seeking romantic bliss online can have a major downside: Cyberspace is full of scammers eager to take advantage of lonely hearts.
Watch out for these warning signs:
- Your new romantic interest sends you a picture that looks more like a model from a fashion magazine than an ordinary snapshot.
- The person quickly wants to leave the dating website and communicate with you through email or instant messaging.
- He or she lavishes you with attention. Swindlers often inundate prospective marks with texts, emails, and phone calls to draw them in.
- He or she repeatedly promises to meet you in person but always seems to come up with an excuse to cancel.
DO’s
- Do take it slowly. Ask your potential partner a lot of questions and watch for inconsistencies that might reveal an impostor.
- Do check the photo, using Google’s “search by image” feature. If the same picture shows up elsewhere with a different name attached to it, that’s a sign a scammer may have stolen it.
- Do be wary of flirtatious and overly complimentary emails. Paste the text into a search engine and see whether the same words show up on websites devoted to exposing romance scams.
- Do cut off contact immediately if you begin to suspect that the individual may be a swindler.
- Do notify the dating site or the maker of the dating app on which you met the scammer.
DON’Ts
- Don’t feel a false sense of safety because you’re the one who made first contact. Scammers flood dating websites with fake profiles and wait for victims to come to them.
- Don’t reveal too much personal information in a dating profile or to someone you’ve chatted with only online. Scammers can exploit details like your last name or where you work to manipulate you or to commit identity theft.
- Don’t ever give an online acquaintance intimate photos that could later be used for extortion.
- Don’t send cash or gift cards to someone you’ve chatted with only online or put money on a reloadable debit card for the person — you’ll never get it back.
If you are ever unsure of someone’s intentions and think you are being scammed, don’t hesitate to call the Risk Management Department, or make an appointment to come by any branch to discuss your situation.

Mainstreet in the Community
Our deep roots in education make us proud to recognize the tremendous work of our community’s educators. Two teachers, pictured below, were presented with the Olathe Public Schools Foundation Educator Excellence Award in September. To win the award, the teacher must be nominated via an essay by former or current students, colleagues, or students’ parents. Mainstreet values the impact every educator makes with our future generation of thinkers and doers. To get into the school spirit, school districts like Shawnee Mission, pictured below, hosted a Back-to-School breakfast for staff to celebrate the start of a new school year.

Our CEO, John Beverlin, addressed SMSD employees as they prepared for a new school year.
Skip A Payment and Help Local Children
Take a month off this year. Mainstreet Credit Union’s Skip-A-Pay program gives you an opportunity to support local children and their families. From November 1, 2021, through January 31, 2022, you can skip one month’s loan payment* and give a voluntary donation to support the Children’s Miracle Network. All donations from Skip-A-Pay are sent to the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals to provide hope and healing to nearly 15,000 kids right here in the Greater Kansas City area.
* Only one monthly loan payment per loan may be skipped through January 31, 2022. This will extend your contract for one month and interest will continue to accrue. This offer excludes real estate secured loans. Skipped payments may affect future GAP claim benefits. Your loan must be current and your accounts in good standing. Other restrictions may apply.
Mainstreet Helps Showcase Local Artists
Thanks to our partnership with ARTSKC, members visiting the Twin Creeks branch will be treated to special showings by local artists. The Now Showing program is designed to foster partnerships between individual artists and businesses by providing opportunities for metro-area artists to display their work in public spaces. The partnership benefits the artist who is exposed to a potential new audience, as well as Mainstreet members who are exposed to new elements of creativity and inspiration.
We invite you to stop by and see his exhibit, running through the end of November at our Twin Creeks Branch, 8451 N. Madison Avenue, Kansas City, MO. Check out more of Bill’s work at his website https://artskc.org/artist-directory/?artist_id=27586.
Bill Hankins, pictured above, is our new Now Showing artist. Hankins is best known for his contribution to scholastic photojournalism, advising student publications at Oak Park High School in Kansas City and for being inducted into the Missouri Photojournalism Hall of Fame in 2008.
