Reasons, Timing, and What to Do When You Receive Your New VISA Debit Card
Why am I receiving a new debit card? 
We are excited to announce that we are issuing new Visa debit cards to all members as part of our system upgrade to enhance security measures. Your new Visa card will offer improved security and functionality.
 
When will I receive my new debit card?
New cards will start mailing on August 20 (8/20/25) and September 17 (9/17/25). You can expect to receive your card within 10 business days. If you haven't received it by October 2 (10/2/25), please reach out to us at 913-599-1010 or leave a message on the Contact Us page.
 
What if my address is incorrect?
To ensure timely delivery, please update your mailing address as soon as possible by logging into online banking, visiting a branch, or calling us at 913-599-1010.
 
What should I do when I receive my new card?
 
  • Activate your card immediately by calling 1-866-985-2273, and you can start using your new Visa card.
  • Update any automatic payments linked to your old card (like subscriptions or utility bills) as well as your digital/mobile wallets.
  • Cut or Shred the Card:
    • Scissors: Use strong scissors to cut the card into small pieces, making sure to cut through the magnetic stripe, the chip (if there is one), and any embossed numbers (debit card number, your name).
    • Shredder: Use a cross-cut shredder specifically designed for credit cards for more thorough destruction. 
What if I don’t receive my new card?
If your new card hasn’t arrived by October 2 (10/2/25), please contact us at 913-599-1010 or visit your nearest branch.

Anticipated Changes to Expect
Will my card number change?
Yes, your card number will change. Please update any automatic payments and digital/mobile wallets (such as Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay) linked to your old card.
 
What should I do if I have recurring payments set up with my old card number?
Since your card number is changing, update your payment information with any merchants, including:
  • Streaming services (Netflix, Hulu, etc.)
  • Utility bills
  • Online shopping accounts (Amazon, PayPal, etc.)
  • Subscription services
  • Mobile/digital wallets
Will my PIN change?
Yes, your PIN will also change. Your new Visa card will include instructions for choosing your new PIN. 
 
Can I request a custom PIN?
Absolutely! You can visit a branch or call us at  913-599-1010 to have your PIN changed to something that suits you.
 
Will my account information change?
No, your member number, account number, and routing number will remain the same.
 
Can I still use my old debit card?
It's best to start using your new Visa Debit Card immediately. Your current Mastercard Debit Card will be deactivated on October 28th (10/28/25). Please activate and start using your new Visa card before this date to avoid any interruptions in service.
 
Are there any fees for my new Visa debit card?
No, there are no fees associated with this card reissuance.

Will my card still work outside the United States?
Please contact us before traveling to confirm any restrictions on your card usage internationally.

Will my card work if I am traveling within the United States?
Due to fraudulent activity, Mainstreet Credit Union protects cardholders by limiting transactions in some areas. If you have planned travel coming up, alert Mainstreet CU about your vacation plans to ensure your transactions aren't declined when traveling.

Here's how you can notify us of your next trip:
  1. Fill out the Travel Notification form. 
    • Allow one business day (Mon. - Fri. excluding federal holidays) for processing. 
  2. Contact Mainstreet CU at 913-599-1010 option #4 during business hours.
    • Please provide the following information when you call:
      • Debit Card number that you will be using when traveling 
      • Dates of travel and destination(s)
      • Contact phone number
