We're Moving

We’re excited to share an upcoming change for our Lenexa location. On October 3rd, our administrative and operations teams will move to a new Operations Center at 10910 W 87th St, Lenexa, KS 66214. While this center is dedicated to our staff and not open to members, it gives us the extra room we need to grow and serve you even better.

We’re also delighted to share our plans to relocate the Lenexa branch itself. While the exact timeline is still being finalized, we anticipate welcoming you to the new branch by year’s end and will keep you informed every step of the way. For now, we can reveal that the future branch will be at 9500 Lackman Rd, Lenexa, KS 66219, just 1.6 miles west of our current location. As soon as we have more details, we’ll share them with you. In the meantime, you’re welcome to continue using our current Lenexa branch and ATM.

These moves will give us more room and better resources to serve you. They will also help us continue our mission of Empowering our communities to improve their financial lives through financial education, outreach, and one-on-one guidance.

Announcing Our New Website Launch

We’re thrilled to share that Mainstreet Credit Union will soon unveil a redesigned website, created to give you a better and more convenient experience. The new site features a fresh look, streamlined navigation, and improved search tools to help you quickly find what you need. For online banking, you’ll continue to click the login button in the upper right corner—just as you do now. Your online banking and mobile app access will stay the same, with no new login required. Get ready for our new website coming in late October!

Beware of Muse Scams on Social Media

We’ve had a rise in “Muse scams”, specifically targeting our younger members. A Muse scam often appears as an opportunity or community invitation, but is a fraud scheme designed to trick individuals into sending money or sharing personal information. Here are some tips to help protect yourself and your family from becoming a victim.

How the Scam Works

The Pitch: A "digital artist" or "painter" messages a person on a social media platform, like Instagram, Facebook, or TikTok, complimenting their profile picture. Or they may promise a person involvement in a creative project, event, or partnership. They offer a generous commission (e.g., $500) to use their photo or participation as a muse for an upcoming project.

The Check: The scammer sends a check or e-check that is purposefully written for a larger amount than promised, often $1,500 or more.

The Demand: The scammer asks the person to send the remaining funds to their "art supplier" or a "client" via wire transfer, gift cards, or a digital payment app (like CashApp or Zelle).

The Aftermath: A few days later, the check returns as fraudulent. The money that was sent to the “art supplier” or “client” is gone, and the person is held legally liable for the full amount of the bounced check.

Warning Signs to Watch For

Unsolicited Offers: Randomly receiving offers for "free money" from people you don’t know in exchange for a simple photo. Also, offers that sound too good to be true that pressure you to act quickly or keep a secret.

Oversized Payments: Being sent a check or funds that exceeds the agreed-upon amount with instructions to forward the difference to other parties.

Middleman Requests: Being asked to act as a middleman between the artist and an art supply vendor. Real artists and clients pay vendors directly.

What to Do If You Were Targeted

If a potential scammer contacts you, block the profile and report them directly on the social media platform. If you have already deposited the check or sent money, take these steps immediately:

1. Contact Mainstreet Credit Union: Immediately call Mainstreet to report the possible fraudulent check deposit and potentially prevent your account from being flagged or overdrawn.

2. Contact the Payment Service: If you used Zelle, CashApp, or a wire transfer, report the fraudulent transaction to the service to see if the funds can be recovered, however this is very rare.

3. File a Police Report: If you have lost money due to Muse scam, contact your local police department and file a police report. The sooner you report the scam the better.

4. Report the Fraud: Contact the Federal Trade Commission (FTC.gov) and FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3.gov) to report the fraud.
