Helpful Details
Online - members can view their statements through OnlineAccess.
By mail - members who have opted in for printed statements receive monthly or quarterly statements, based on the type of account they have. Mailed statements are subject to a fee. Please refer to the Fee Schedule for current fees.
Yes. Existing recurring payments and merchant relationships should continue to process normally using your current card information.
Yes, any Mainstreet checking account may be used for payments.
All Bill Payer transactions are reflected as an ACH debit on the account statement.
You may register for Bill Payer online. The online method is invoked the first time you attempt to access Bill Payer. First, you will be requested to read and accept Mainstreet Credit Union's authorization disclosure. Failure to accept the disclosure terms prevents the registration process from proceeding. After the disclosure is agreed to, you complete an online registration form. After submission, the registration form is electronically forwarded to Mainstreet Credit Union for review. Mainstreet Credit Union is responsible for checking the information submitted and for assigning the payment plan. For more information call 913-599-1010.
If you try to enter Bill Payer during the application-processing period, you will be shown a page requesting that you wait for the acceptance notification.
Payment processing takes three to five working days. The main variable in processing time is whether the payee accepts electronic Bill Payer or requires a physical check. The customer must allow three business days for electronic payments to be received and five business days for checks to be received.
Yes, you are limited to one Bill Payer account.
You may pay practically anyone in the 50 United States and territories who can accept a check using Bill Payer - utilities, auto loans, even doctors and day-care centers. There are, however, organizations that will not accept payments via Bill Payer, such as the IRS and other taxing entities, and court directed and government-related organizations.
Electronic payees receive payment information in an electronic format that credits their account. Non-electronic merchants or individual payees receive a laser-printed paper check sent through the U.S. Postal Service.
If there are non-sufficient funds, the debt will be returned to the Bill Payer provider via banking channels. The ACH return will prompt the system to block your account, preventing you from making more payments until the NSF is resolved. Any recurring future dated payments scheduled for release during the time the account is blocked will not be sent.
Bill Pay allows you to pay anyone, anywhere right from your computer or mobile phone. There is no limit to the number of bills you can pay, and this service is free to all members with a checking account.
The following payment limits apply and cannot be raised:
Individual payee: $1,000 per transaction; $2,000 daily total
Business payee: $5,000 per transaction; $9,999.99 daily total
On the process date, the Bill Payer processor generates an ACH debit (in the amount of the bill payment) to your checking account. Your checking account will be debited within two banking business days.
You may schedule payments 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Payments scheduled on a Saturday, Sunday, or holiday will be debited from the account the next business day.
You may schedule payments 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The Bill Payer processor processes payments on all days excluding Sundays and Federal Reserve Board recognized holidays. In cases where a payment gets scheduled on a Sunday (this can potentially happen on a recurring payment), the payment is processed on the day before (Saturday). If you happen to be setting up the payment on this particular Saturday, the bill payment will be processed on the next banking business day. Also, please note that weekly recurring payments may not be scheduled on Saturdays.
Once you receive a confirmation e-mail informing you that you are now activated, you may begin using Bill Payer. This process takes approximately two to three business days.

If you are working on paying off a credit card, congratulations! We recommend that you create a custom subcategory to track your progress, such as Bills & Utilities: Credit Card Payoff. This will allow you to see in Spending and Budgets how much you have spent towards paying down that debt.
It is recommended that you do not use your card for purchases while you are paying it off. Not only will it be easier to stick to your goal if you just don’t use the card, but it is more difficult to account for your credit card payoff if you are actively accruing debt on the card.
If you must use your credit card while you are paying it off, you can split the transaction between Transfers: Credit Card Payment for the portion that pays back what you spent, and Bills & Utilities: Credit Card Payoff for the amount that will be applied to the previous balance.
If you also want to track separately how much of your credit card payment is applied to interest vs. what you owe, see “How do I account for interest paid on a loan?”

You can place a stop payment on a lost or stolen check that has not yet been presented for payment by phone or at any branch.
By phone: Contact the Member Assistance Center
Branch: Stop by any branch location
Stop payments placed through the Member Service Center or at a branch are assessed a fee of $25 per request or $35 for a series of checks.
You will need to provide your 13-digit account number which differs from your member number. A 13-digit number is needed for all automatic clearing house (ACH) transactions. You can find this at the bottom of your checks. From left to right you will see our routing number, a separator symbol, then your 13-digit account number.
Automatic Loan Payments allow regular payments on a Mainstreet loan to be transferred from your checking or savings account. To set up automatic payments, call the Member Assistance Center or stop by any branch location.

Yes, members can refinance for a lower rate, shorter term, or to get cash out for other needs. We can save members from paying many fees and associated closing costs as our costs are usually much lower than what other lenders charge. Call us at 913-599-1010 to learn more about how to refinance your existing mortgage.
Conventional - There is a 3 percent down payment requirement.
Zero Down - No down payment required for first-time home buyers. A 1% minimum borrower contribution is required, which can be part of closing costs or required cash reserves.
Mortgages with less than a 20 percent down payment require Private Mortgage Insurance to protect the lender against default. When considering the size of your down payment, consider that you'll also need money for closing costs, moving expenses and possibly repairs, decorating or appliances. Call us at 913-599-1010 to learn more about down payment requirements.
Absolutely not! That was a true statement when houses were $30,000 each, but it is no longer the case. The smaller your mortgage the truer it is, however, because a smaller balance results in fewer savings. Have your loan officer calculate the cost of the loan versus the savings and the period of time it will take you to recoup the expenses of the refinance. This should help you decide whether it's worthwhile or not, and it will only take the loan officer a few minutes to calculate.
Retaining servicing means that Mainstreet will take care of your loan after closing. We receive and post your payments and pay taxes, homeowners insurance and mortgage insurance out of your escrow account (if you have an account set up for this purpose). We also perform annual escrow analysis, issue payoff requests (we don't charge any payoff statement fee or fax fee for this service) and perform collection activity if that becomes necessary. Retaining servicing is very important to us because it allows us to take care of our members after closing and do other nice things for you, such as paying dividends on your escrow account!
A credit score is a score that attempts to condense a borrower's credit history into a single number that will predict the likelihood that a person will pay their bills as agreed. Points are assigned for different pieces of information such as payment history, length of time of residency and employment, length of time credit has been established, use of credit and any negative information such as late payments, collections, bankruptcies, and charge-offs. The score will range from 350 to 850, the higher the better. For mortgage loans, a score of 680 or above indicates a good score.
You pay a predetermined interest rate for the duration of the mortgage. Mainstreet offers you a choice of 10, 15, 20 or 30-year terms. You will pay more interest over the term of the 30-year mortgage but your monthly payments are lower than the shorter-term fixed-rate loans that we offer. With the 10, 15 or 20-year mortgage, you have a higher monthly payment but you build up the equity in your home faster.
You plan to own your own home for only a few years (3 to 6), and/or
You want to lower initial monthly payments more than a traditional 30-year fixed-rate mortgage offers, and/or
You need a lower initial monthly payment to qualify for a larger loan &/or buy more home, and/or
You are a first-time home buyer and need the lowest payment to start out in your new home.

Times are changing. As the economy evolves, the U.S. Department of the Treasury has announced it will stop producing the penny.
We are no longer able to order pennies from the Federal Reserve, which limits our ability to fill change orders that include them.
Rolls of pennies are no longer available at our branches.
Cash in your pennies sooner rather than later. While no official date has been set, there may come a time when Mainstreet will no longer accept pennies for deposit.
Expect rounding – we will round down to the nearest five cents.
Use digital payments – card and mobile transactions will continue to process to the exact cent and are not affected by rounding.
When closing an account, if your final balance includes 1–4 cents, the amount will be rounded down. You may request a cashier’s check for the exact amount or choose to donate the remaining cents to Children’s Miracle Network.
Appointments can be made as quickly as 1 hour in advance and looking up to 2 weeks out in the calendar. Some appointments are available by phone or in-person, while others are phone-only appointments.

Spoofing is when a caller deliberately falsifies the information transmitted to your caller ID display to disguise their identity. Scammers often use neighbor spoofing so it appears that an incoming call is coming from a local number or spoof a number from a company or a government agency that you may already know and trust. If you answer, they use scam scripts to try to steal your money or valuable personal information, which can be used in fraudulent activity.

Reminder:
Mainstreet Credit Union will NOT contact you requesting you to share account information. Fraudsters can spoof real numbers (including your credit union’s phone number), and falsely claim that there has been potential fraudulent activity on your account, in an attempt to scare you into providing your account information.
If you are contacted by someone asking you to provide passwords or any information that appears on your debit, ATM, or credit card (such as card number, CVV number, expiration date, etc.), DO NOT share anything with them. HANG UP IMMEDIATELY. Remember these fraudsters can mask phone numbers and make it appear as though they are calling from a valid number, even a Mainstreet Credit Union number. If you are unsure whether the representative calling you is from Mainstreet Credit Union, hang up and contact us at 913-599-1010 or toll-free 888-395-1010 or stop by a branch so we can review your account activity with you.

*If you choose Extended Coverage on your consumer account, ATM transactions and everyday debit card transactions will be included with the transactions listed under Standard Coverage. If you already have Overdraft Privilege Extended Coverage, it is not necessary to request it again. Business accounts automatically have Extended Coverage.
WHAT ELSE YOU SHOULD KNOW
A link to another account may be less expensive than an overdraft. A single larger overdraft will result in one fee, instead of multiple smaller overdrafts. Use our mobile banking, OnlineAccess and PhoneAccess services to track your balance. For financial education resources, please visit www.mymoney.gov. (Opens in a new Window)
The $27.50 Overdraft Fee amount that is charged if you overdraw your account is the same amount as the fee that is charged if an item is returned as unpaid. If multiple items overdraw your account on the same day, each item will be assessed an appropriate Overdraft Fee or a Non-Sufficient Funds Fee (NSF) of $27.50. All fees and charges will be included as part of the Overdraft Privilege limit amount. Your account may become overdrawn more than the Overdraft Privilege limit amount because of a fee.
Recipients of federal or state benefits payments who do not wish us to deduct the amount overdrawn and the Overdraft Fee from funds that you deposit or that are deposited into your account may call us at (913) 599-1010 to discontinue Overdraft Privilege.
If an item is returned because the Available Balance (as defined below) in your account is not sufficient to cover the item and the item is presented for payment again, Mainstreet Credit Union (“We”) may charge a Non-Sufficient Funds Fee (NSF) each time the item is returned because the amount exceeds the Available Balance in your account. Because we may charge a Non-Sufficient Funds Fee (NSF) each time an item is presented, we may charge you more than one fee for any given item as a result of a returned item and representment of the item. When we charge a Non-Sufficient Funds Fee (NSF), the charge reduces the Available Balance in your account and may put your account into (or further into) overdraft. If, on representment of the item, the Available Balance in your account is sufficient to cover the item we may pay the item, and, if payment causes an overdraft, charge an Overdraft Fee. There is no limit on the total Overdraft Fees per day we will charge.
This describes the posting order for purposes of determining overdrafts. Our general policy is to post items throughout the day and to post ACH credits before debits. ACH transactions are posted from lowest to highest dollar amount, and ATM and debit card transactions in the order in which the items are received, while paper checks are posted in lowest to highest dollar amount; however, because of the many ways we allow you to access your account, the posting order of individual items may differ from these general policies. Holds on funds (described herein) and the order in which transactions are posted may impact the total amount of Overdraft Fees or Non-Sufficient Funds Fees (NSF) assessed.
Mainstreet Credit Union may be obligated to pay some debit card transactions that are not authorized through the payment system but which we are required to pay due to the payment system rules, and as a result you may incur fees if such transactions overdraw your account. However, we will not authorize debit card or ATM transactions unless your account’s Available Balance (including Overdraft Coverage Options) is sufficient to cover the transactions and any fee(s).
Overdraft Privilege is not a line of credit; it is a discretionary overdraft service that can be withdrawn at any time without prior notice.
Each Account Owner, as defined in our Account Agreement, will continue to be liable, jointly and severally, for all overdraft and fee amounts, as described in the Membership and Account Agreement. The total (negative) balance, including all fees and charges, is due and payable upon demand.
Giving us your consent to pay everyday debit card and ATM overdrafts on your consumer account (Extended Coverage) may result in you incurring Overdraft Fees for transactions that we would otherwise be required to pay without assessing an Overdraft Fee. However, this would allow us to authorize transactions up to the amount of your Overdraft Privilege limit. If you consent to Extended Coverage on your consumer account, it will remain on your account until it is otherwise withdrawn.
Mainstreet Credit Union will authorize and pay transactions using the Available Balance plus any Overdraft Protection or Overdraft Privilege.
Your Ledger Balance (Actual Balance) reflects the full amount of all deposits to your account as well as payment transactions that have been posted to your account. It does not reflect checks you have written and are still outstanding or transactions that have been authorized but are still pending.
Your Available Balance is the amount available to you to use for purchases, withdrawals, or to cover transactions. The Available Balance is your Ledger Balance (Actual Balance), less any holds due to pending debit card transactions and holds on deposited funds. Mainstreet Credit Union may place a hold on deposited funds in accordance with our Funds Availability Policy Disclosure which will reduce the amount of your Available Balance.”
The balance used for authorizing checks, ACH items, and recurring debit card transactions is your Available Balance plus any available Overdraft Protection and includes the Overdraft Privilege limit.
The balance used for authorizing ATM and everyday debit card transactions on accounts with Standard Coverage is your Available Balance plus any available Overdraft Protection but does NOT include the Overdraft Privilege limit.
The balance used for authorizing ATM and everyday debit card transactions on accounts with Extended Coverage is your Available Balance plus any available Overdraft Protection and includes the Overdraft Privilege limit.
Because your Available Balance reflects pending transactions and debit holds, your balance may appear to cover a transaction but later upon settlement it may not be sufficient to cover such transaction. In such cases, the transaction may further overdraw your account and be subject to additional overdraft fees. You should assume that any item which would overdraw your account based on your Available Balance may create an overdraft. Note that we may place a hold on deposited funds in accordance with our Membership and Account Agreement, which will reduce the amount in your Available Balance.
Please be aware that the Overdraft Privilege amount is not included in your Available Balance provided through OnlineAccess, PhoneAccess, mobile banking, or ATMs.
Mainstreet Credit Union will place a hold on your account for any authorized debit card transaction until the transaction settles (usually within two business days) or as permitted by payment system rules. In some cases, the hold may exceed the amount of the transaction. When the hold ends, the funds will be added to the Available Balance in your account. If your account is overdrawn after the held funds are added to the Available Balance and the transaction is posted to the Available Balance, an Overdraft Fee may be assessed. In certain circumstances, a debit card transaction may be “Authorized Positive, Settle Negative” (APSN). If a debit card transaction is authorized on a positive balance but settles against negative funds no fee will be assessed to the account.
Except as described herein, Mainstreet Credit Union will not pay items if the Available Balance in your account (including the Overdraft Privilege limit, if applicable) is not sufficient to cover the item(s) and the amount of any fee(s).
New consumer checking accounts may receive a $500 Overdraft Privilege limit at account opening that may be increased to $1,000 after one year from the date of membership at Mainstreet Credit Union.
Overdraft Privilege may be reduced if you are more than 30 days past due on any loan with us, or more than one month past due on your Mainstreet Credit Union issued credit card, your account becomes subject to any legal or administrative order or levy, or if you fail to maintain your account in good standing by not bringing your account to a positive balance within 32 days for a minimum of one business day. You must bring your account balance positive for at least one business day to have the full Overdraft Privilege limit reinstated. If you are more than 60 days past due on any loan with Mainstreet Credit Union, have an active bankruptcy, or have defaulted on any obligation with Mainstreet Credit Union, the Overdraft Privilege limit will be suspended.
